Kazuyuki Kumagai worked as an assistant on the design team of Issey Miyake from 1990 to 1995 and learned the craft  the hard way under one of fashion’s great icons. He developed an artisan spirit through working with many fellow craftsmen and was touched by their enthusiasm for fabric development and innovation. He brought this spirit to his new project when he started Attachment in 1998. “I was thinking that I needed to have close contact with factories and textile makers to understand their work and manufacturing circumstances, then I started making clothing with verification of the technical proof for them. I wanted to create clothing based on craftsmanship.”
